It all began at the very first Funspot Classics Tournament in the summer
of 1999. After hearing about the event, I knew I had to attend.
Finally a chance to get my video gaming skills noticed! I started
surfing the internet for more information and what's this Twin Galaxies?
It was then, that I hooked up with a gentleman named Ken Sweet. As
it turns out, Ken was the captain of the New Hampshire Pro Video Game Team.
What? There's a video game TEAM in NH? How come I've never
heard of it. If anyone needs to be a part of this team it's ME!
By now I'm very excited about the tournament, and I made plans to meet
up with Ken at the event, for a chance to be considered for the team.
Ken and I got together and chatted about a few things. He then explained
to me about Twin Galaxies; and that they're the Official International
Scoreboard for Video Game and Pinball world records. As it turns
out, it was Ken's ambition and hard work that teamed up Twin Galaxies with
Funspot. Well, it wasn't hard for the team to decide that I certainly
had the skills and dedication to be a part of the team, and so it was.
After a while, seeing how dedicated I was to the team, Ken was gracious
enough to make me his partner, and he and I each became co-captains of
the team. We represented the team in many events including the second
Funspot Classics tournament, the National Hydro Thunder Championships,
and the Classic Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. Now and then we did our
best to host our own competitions, with mixed success. Soon, Ken
came to me saying that he thought he'd had his fill of running the team,
(it's not as easy as it seems) and he decided to step down and take a rest.
I explained to him that I would certainly keep the team going, and that
pleased him. Simply, that was that. Now I held the reigns.
By this time our team size had dwindled to just a few members, and I decided
it was time to make NH aware that we existed! I also had always thought
that the team name needed a re-vamp. So I scheduled a team recruiting
session and advertised for it ALL over the state. Tragically, the
response was extremely poor. Only a handful of video gamers local
to the Lakes Region responded to the call. But, though our numbers
were not great, we were a TEAM.
The NH Video Warriors was founded on Sunday August 27, 2000.
We held
a practice every week, and soon popularity grew and our numbers increased.
Continuing to meet every week and talk about events and gaming news, new
players jumped on board, and some moved on to other things. But,
no matter how great or small our numbers may be, the NH Video Warriors
will always be dedicated to breaking world record high scores, and helping
to spread the excitement of competitive video gaming.
