Digging
My dog digs constantly. We've tried everything to stop him, what can I do?"

Think about what breed or predominant breed of dog do you have. Some dogs were designed to dig, terrier’s for instance. Their instincts are so strong that many terriers feel it is their civic duty to make an excavation site out of your yard.

Other dogs may dig to get cool. Thicker coated dogs, and dark colored dogs heat up fast. Try creating more shade or putting a kiddy pool nearby to soak in. Your local groomer can also reduce the amount of coat your dog is carrying around.

Digging is fun. Kids love to dig, why not dogs. More exercise or toys help with this type of digger. Baricade, cover or fill in holes with big rocks to slow him down.

Active dogs need to burn off extra energy, so why not dig? Again, more exercise, bones and toys will help curb the urge.

What to do: Eliminate, if possible, the reason for the digging. Baracade, cover and fill holes with big rocks to slow him down. Be as persistant as he is.
