Getting on Furniture
The key to success is consistancy and persistance. You have to change his current behavior pattern, so it will take time. Be patient. Choose a command like Off. Down already means something else. Booby traps can also aid in your mission. Upside down chairs barricading the couch or overturned cushions make it more difficult for them to take up residence. For the more persistant dog, double sided sticky tape on the cushions or tiny mousetraps set underneath a newspaper (you want to startle, not hurt) are in order. Generally, these behavior modification tips will work if you commit. For a quick fix, baby gate him out of the room or crate him when your not around to correct him. Try setting up a bed just for him and feed him his cookie on it nightly. You can even give your dog his own chair. It wont confuse him if hes only allowed on his chair and not yours. |
