Subject: french Hello Dave! Thank you for bio's and SAREX STS-50 information. I don't know why my signals was bad on 2 passes. I couldn't receive anything from your PMS. Maybe it was because of MIR position relative to your station. Polarisation of my antenna rotates with the space station. The next crew will take off on July, 26 with the frenchman. These are Anatolij Solovjov - commander, Sergej Avdejev - flightengineer Michael Tognini - research. The back-up crew: Gennadij Manakov - commander, Alexandr Poleshchuk- flightengineer, Jean-Pierre Enere - research. They will change us and we'll land with the frenchman on August,9. I hope that there will be not changes in our plans. Is there some info about Yeltsin and Bush summit and agreement in space programms? Next few days we'll make some medical tests to get permission for EVA. On Friday's night the frighter will leave us. On July 2 will be rendezvous and docking with the next frighter. And then we'll have much work. Mezospheric clouds are visiable during the whole working day. From America through Siberia to Europa. Fantastic! Good bye! 73 Alex U8MIR Hello Dave! We had much work in last days. I hadn't QSO today with Columbia. Unfortunately. I received info today at noon from our Space Missions Control Center that they were informed that today Columbia crew will be to busy and QSO will not be able. Yesterday our control gave us info about time and freq for QSO today. I tried ask KB5SIW and KB5SIX but my attempts was unsuccesfull. Last night the freighter left our station. After it's undocking we were making a complex geophysi- cal experiment. It was very interesting spectacle of the alone actor and our freighter was the star in it. Our wokr was running all the night and then we were sleeping till noon. Now our orbit is so that the sun is shining continuously during whole orbit. It's to warm in the station. This orbit will be till Tuesday. Good bye. 73 Alex U8MIR Posted : 07/01/92 23:27 To : N6JLH Subject: news Hello Dave! I was glad to read your daughteries are interesting in space station MIR. I'm not specialist in medicine and I cann't explain aimes of these experiments. Our next freighter is OK. Docking will be tomorrow at the evening as it is planned. After this event we will begin the montage of two girodynes inside the module KVANT-2. It will be hard and difficult work. Our future EVA will be a part of this work. I must say that SOFORA is the mast installed on KVANT in 1991. And on the mast SOFORA will be installed the external burn unit which is not SOFORA. This work will make the next crew. Thank you for files. 73 Alex U8MIR Hello Dave! Our news are not so good. Yesterday our rendezvous with the freighter was unsuccessful. When the distance between MIR and PROGRESS was 160 meters some trouble in the docking system occured and the freighter went away from MIR on the safe distance. The reason of this failure is analised now by specialists in the Space Missions Control Center. We'll make some tests, maybe some repair and new tests after it. And then will be the next attempt of docking. Good bye. 73 Alex U8MIR Hello Dave! Thank you for BIO's. I would like now Skylab files and some info about INDEPENDENCE DAY USA of course. In this day we mounted two girodyns with tubes in the whole assembly, connected the electric cables and finally finished this work which was like tornado. You may imagine yourself what is there now inside our station. Today we have a day of rest. (We are putting in order the station's interrior). Today was been made some tests. And they were OK! Girodyn is a big giroscope whose giroscopic moment(or torque- I don't remember the exact english termin) rotates the station without the fuel combustion. There are 6 girodyns in module KVANT and 6 in module KVANT-2. In KVANT they stay inside and in KVANT-2 -outside the station. But 5 girodyns in KVANT-2 failed. It was decided to mount the supplementary girodyns inside the KVANT-2. It happened after our launch and we hadn't any trainings in this work.
