Continental manufactures bicycle tires in Germany. The tread of their tires is made from natural rubber. Their light, narrow tires such as the XC Pro and Leader Pro are popular for XC racing. They have a single distributor in the USA, who can be reached for more information at (405)-239-6141. A free booklet is available that describes their tires and how they are manufactured.
The review is divided into two parts. First, a chart rates the tire's performance on four kinds of terrain on a scale of 1 to 10. Click on the tire name in the chart to jump to the second part of its review below the chart: a written description of the tire's construction and its handling characteristics on different kinds of terrain.

Continental Pro 1 (Kevlar Bead)
Weight: 615 grams
Advertised carcass width: 2.125 (54mm). Actual carcass width: xx mm.
Casing TPI: 60
Rubber Density: Medium
Rear Use: The Pro 1's wide semi-square tread enables it to float on top of soft dirt and sand while the large sparse center paddle knobs dig in to create excellent traction. It produces great traction on hard dirt because of its large contact area. Its performance declines on slick rock unless pressure is decreased to put more rubber in contact with the rock. The small stiff cornering knobs hold well in most conditions, but are neither big nor tall enough to hold well on loose rocky trails. The transition from upright to leaning is smooth and predictable. It works well at lower than normal pressures because of its wide tread and thick casing. The rubber resists chips and cuts. The Pro 1's casing is thick, durable, heavy and stiff. Riding on hard surfaces rounds the edges of the center knobs because of the large space between them. The Pro 1 provides flotation in soft dirt, and a large contact patch on hard surfaces. It is best suited to XC racing on technical terrain, or trail riding. Its width and durability are good for downhill racing but it lacks aggressive cornering knobs.
