Background on the RAGDOLL
Ragdolls originated in California in the 1960's as an apartment/house cat with a strong devotion to their owners. This is one of the reasons that this cat makes an exceptional pet for owners who live within cities/towns. It is believed that the breed was started with a white Persian type female and a Birman type. The 'best type of offspring was then bred to a Burmese and from there a line-breeding program was established and adhered to for seven generations. The Ragdoll breeds "true", therefore it is not necessary to re-introduce the other breeds into a breeding program.
The Ragdoll acquired its name because of its ability to go limp when being held. They have a wonderful quiet nature, are intelligent and playful, lovable and easy going. They also bond very quickly to their owners.
The Ragdoll is a large, muscular, heavy boned cat. They have a tendency to carry their weight in their hind quarters, with a fatty pad on their lower belly. They have semi-long fur which is silky and non-matting. Their eyes are always blue.
They mature slowly and therefore, do not attain full size or color for 2-4 years. They weigh between 15-20 pounds, with the females usually smaller than the males. The kittens are born all white and start to develop their color and patterns in 10-15 days.
