I got Scamper from a next door neighbor who couldn't take care of him anymore. He was only about nine weeks old when I got him and didn't have a proper name. I got his name from the way he 'scamped' around my apartment. When I took Scamper to the vet for his first visit, the vet told me not to bother trying to help him because he was very sick, malnourished and probably wouldn't live. I couldn't put him to sleep, so I spent nearly $300 dollars on medications and what not...and now he is a 3 year old Monster! Actually, I love him dearly (just kidding, Scamp!). To think that when I rescued him, he could fit in one hand and weighed only three pounds. Now he tips the scales at 15 lbs and I can't carry him around without getting a cramp in my shoulder!

Sammie arrived at my house in an interesting way. My friend Gail and I were going out grocery shopping when we saw this little cat sitting under the stairs to my apartment in Laconia, NH. She was an obvious stray and looked very pregnant. I gave her a little food and continued with my errands. I felt sorry for the little thing but I already had Scamper and didn't think I could afford another cat. However, everyday that week I saw her sitting on the porch, each day she looked worse, I thought that if she really was pregnant that the kittens would never survive. So, of course, I took her in and named her Samantha (although we all call her Sammie). It turned out that she wasn't pregnant, she had a severe infection of her mammary glands. Once that was cleared up, she started to feel better and soon she and Scamper were chasing each other around my little apartment. Sammie hasn't grown much since I rescued her, she weighs only about 11 lbs. The vet thinks that Sammie will always be slim, probably due to some Siamese in her.

Many people ask me if Scamper and Sammie are related, and the answer is... I don't know.
Scamper's previous owner got him from a friend in the neighborhood, who let his cats roam. It is very possible that they has either the same Tom or Queen or perhaps are just mere cousins. Scamper is at least six months older so they weren't litter-mates, but any thing after that is mere speculation. They do have quite a few traits in common, the freckle on the nose, and the white gloves and belly.
